MartinaKuna Yala, Part Two

So entranced are we, we can’t resist giving more life to these images: the faces of Kuna Yala. We spent 7 months there. A record for the itchy keeled Moxie crew. We passed from a casual waving acquaintance to friendship with a number Kuna families. Particularly those of Sug Dub (the crab) where we’d periodically check in for mail and fresh supplies from Cristobal.

Julia Child Kuna style We shared Christmas with some cruisers and Brujilio and Martina aboard Moxie (guest of honor a sizeable grouper, a turkey substitution). And in turn were guests to some turning of age ceremonies for some Kuna girls. Many Kunas, particularly the men who supplement income with canal work, speak English while the women are conversant in Spanish.

We’ve spent years in the Caribbean, working and sailing, enjoying the gems of the sea. Yet nothing compares with Kuna Yala and its people. Kind, generous, carefree, satisfied with life and their lot therein.

A truly special paradise...
